To be saved means to be rescued from the penalty of sin and brought into a right relationship with God through Jesus Christ. It is not about becoming religious or trying harder to be good. It is about trusting that Jesus took your place on the cross, believing that God raised Him from the dead, and receiving the free gift of eternal life He offers.
Salvation is not something you earn by good deeds. It is a gift you receive by faith.
"If you declare with your mouth, 'Jesus is Lord,' and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved."
No. This is one of the biggest lies that keeps people away. You do not have to fix yourself first, break every bad habit, or have all the answers before you come to God. He accepts you exactly as you are, in the middle of your worst moment.
The cleaning up happens after you come, not before. God does the work of restoration in you as you surrender to Him. Come as you are, today.
"But God demonstrates His own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us."
It is never too late. No matter how far you have wandered or how long you have been gone, the door is still open. In the parable of the prodigal son, the father saw his son while he was still a long way off, ran to meet him, and restored him fully. That is exactly how God responds to you.
God is not waiting to punish you. He is watching the road for your return, ready to embrace you the moment you turn back.
"Return, faithless people; I will cure you of backsliding."
They are two starting points on the same road home. "I want to know Jesus" is for someone meeting Christ for the first time, learning the Gospel and receiving salvation. "I have drifted away" is for someone who once believed and walked closely with God but has since fallen away.

The words of a prayer do not save you. Faith in Christ saves you. The salvation prayer simply gives voice to what you already believe in your heart: that you are a sinner, that Jesus died and rose for you, and that you are turning to Him as Lord and Savior.
If you prayed sincerely and truly believed, then yes, you are saved. Your assurance rests not on how you feel but on the promise of God's Word.
"I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life."
That feeling is real, but it is not the truth. There is no sin too great and no past too dark for the grace of God. Peter denied Christ three times, and Jesus restored him personally. Paul persecuted the church, and became its greatest missionary.
Nothing you have done places you beyond the reach of God's love. When you confess your sin, He is faithful to forgive and to cleanse you completely.
"If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness."
Salvation is the beginning, not the finish line. Here are your first steps: start reading the Bible, beginning with the Gospel of John. Talk to God every day in prayer, in your own words. Find a Bible-believing church and get baptized. And let someone know about your decision so they can encourage you.

Not at all. The Open Door Ministry is here for anyone, anywhere. Many people find us online, pray the salvation prayer alone in their room, and begin a relationship with Christ without ever walking through our doors. Our heart is to reach the lost and restore the broken, wherever they are.
We will always encourage you to find a local Bible-believing church to grow in community, but you never need to be a member to receive prayer, answers, or encouragement from us.
