The Open Door Ministry · A Message For You

Welcome Home, Prodigal

You may have walked away, but God never stopped watching the road for your return.
The Parable of the Prodigal Son

The Father Is Still Watching the Road

Jesus told a story about a son who took his inheritance, wasted it in reckless living, and ended up broken and alone in a far country. That story is about you. It is about every person who once knew God and walked away. But the story does not end in the pigpen.

"And he arose, and came to his father. But when he was yet a great way off, his father saw him, and had compassion, and ran, and fell on his neck, and kissed him."
— Luke 15:20

The father in this parable did not wait at the door with a list of conditions. He ran. He embraced. He restored. That is exactly what God will do for you the moment you turn back to Him. You do not have to clean yourself up first. You do not have to earn your way back. You just have to come home.

The Door Is Open
"Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest."
— Matthew 11:28

The Lies That Keep Backsliders Away

"I have gone too far. God will never take me back."
The Truth:

There is no distance too great for God's grace. Romans 8:38-39 declares that nothing can separate you from the love of God. Nothing includes your past, your failures, and your worst moments.

"I knew better and still walked away. That makes me worse than someone who never believed."
The Truth:

God's mercy is not diminished by your knowledge. Peter denied Christ three times, and Jesus restored him personally and publicly. Your history with God is not a liability; it is a foundation to return to.

"I have to get my life together before I can come back to God."
The Truth:

You come to God broken, that is the whole point. He is the one who puts you back together. Come as you are. He will do the work of restoration in you as you surrender to Him.

"God is angry with me and I will never feel His presence again."
The Truth:

God is not waiting to punish you, He is waiting to embrace you. Jeremiah 31:3 says, 'I have loved thee with an everlasting love; therefore with lovingkindness have I drawn thee.' His kindness is what draws you back, not His wrath.

God's Word To You

Promises of Restoration

"Return, thou backsliding Israel, saith the LORD; and I will not cause mine anger to fall upon you: for I am merciful, saith the LORD."
— Jeremiah 3:12
"I have blotted out, as a thick cloud, thy transgressions, and, as a cloud, thy sins: return unto me; for I have redeemed thee."
— Isaiah 44:22
"If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness."
— 1 John 1:9
A Prayer of Return

Come Home Right Now

You do not need a special moment or a perfect setting. Right where you are, you can turn back to God. Pray this prayer from your heart.

Heavenly Father, I have wandered far from You. I have sinned and I have failed You. But I believe You are a God of mercy and restoration. I come back to You today, not because I deserve it, but because Your Word says You will receive me. Forgive me, Lord. Restore me. I surrender my life back to You. Thank You for never giving up on me. In Jesus' name, Amen.

"I take no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but rather that they turn from their ways and live."
— Ezekiel 33:11
