Five Steps to Salvation
All Have Sinned
"For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God."
The first step on the Romans Road is recognizing that every person, without exception, has sinned. Sin is not just murder or theft; it is any thought, word, or deed that falls short of God's perfect standard. We were born with a sinful nature, and we have all chosen to go our own way rather than God's way.
The Wages of Sin Is Death
"For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord."
Sin has a consequence: death. Not just physical death, but spiritual death, which is eternal separation from God. This is the bad news. But notice the second half of the verse: God offers a free gift, eternal life through Jesus Christ. You cannot earn it. You cannot work for it. It is a gift.
God Demonstrates His Love
"But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us."
Here is the heart of the Gospel: God did not wait for you to clean yourself up. He did not wait for you to deserve it. While you were still a sinner, in the middle of your worst, Christ died for you. This is unconditional love. The cross is the proof that God loves you beyond measure.
Confess and Believe
"That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved."
Salvation is not complicated. It requires two things: confession and belief. Confess with your mouth, openly acknowledge Jesus as Lord. Believe in your heart, trust that God raised Him from the dead. This is not a mere intellectual agreement; it is a surrender of your life to Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior.
Whosoever Shall Call
"For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved."
The word 'whosoever' is the most beautiful word in the Bible. It means you. It means anyone. There is no sin too great, no past too dark, no person too far gone. If you will call upon the name of the Lord, sincerely, from your heart, He will save you. Right now. Today.
Pray This Prayer Right Now
If you believe what you have read, do not wait. Salvation is a decision. Pray this prayer from your heart, and God will hear you.
Dear Lord Jesus, I know that I am a sinner, and I ask for Your forgiveness. I believe You died for my sins and rose from the dead. I turn from my sins and invite You to come into my heart and life. I want to trust and follow You as my Lord and Savior. Amen.
